CANTON — ‘Microplastic Pollution in the Raquette and Grasse Rivers’ will be a free presentation to be held Monday, Feb. 5, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Health Regional Administrative Campus, 6196 US Hwy 11, Canton.

Microplastics are everywhere. These tiny pieces of plastic, smaller than 5mm in length, have been found in the water we drink, the food we eat, and even our very own blood. Want to know how this affects the North Country? Dr. Abul Baki is doing groundbreaking research about microplastic pollution in the Raquette and Grasse Rivers. Join us to learn about his findings, how the abundance and risk of microplastics in rural areas of North Country, how microplastics harm the aquatic environments and human health, and what can be done to protect North Country waters from this type of pollution.

Dr. Baki will be joined by Clarkson University graduate student Addrita Haque, who will discuss microplastics sources, impact, and mitigation strategies.

This event was organized by the Potsdam Climate Smart Committee, the Canton Sustainability Committee, St. Lawrence Health, and Talking Rivers.
