Michael S. Tyo, 61, DeKalb

DEKALB - Michael S. Tyo, 61, of DeKalb passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family, while under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Michael was born July 10, 1963, in Plattsburgh, son of the late Bernard and Jean (Wood) Tyo. He graduated from Hermon-Dekalb Central School, where he attended BOCES for Machining
and Metalworking.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army reserves from 1982-1988. On September 14, 1985, Michael married Kelly Murdock.

Michael worked at Crowley & and Baildon's Manufacturing before working as a machinist at Dunn Paper (formerly James River and Cellutissue) from 1986-2012, where he retired due to his health.

He enjoyed any outdoor activities, hunting and fishing especially, and hockey. Michael was a family man and enjoyed being involved in whatever his boys were up to, whether coaching tee ball or leading canoe trips.

Michael is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kelly Tyo, sons Joshua (Ann) Tyo and Christopher Tyo: grandchildren Gage, Aurora and Atly Tyo, Taylor (Michael) LaBow, and Haylee Reed; great-grandchildren Bryant, Blakely, Brett, and Rylynn. Also surviving are siblings, Lynn (Douglas) Shoulette, Cynthia Sperl, Bob (Bonnie) Tyo and David (Ellen) Tyo; sister-in-law Rhonda (Cory) Dihrberg, brothers-in-law Dean Jr "Pete"; and Ronnie Murdock, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by mother and father in-law Dean and Betty Murdock, brother-in-law Michael Murdock, and sister-in-law Kathy Murdock.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Fairview Cemetery, Canton. A Celebration of Life will follow at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Cory Dihrberg, 5969 US 11; Canton, New York 13617.
