Martin “Marty” James Haenel, 77, Waddington

WADDINGTON -- Martin “Marty” James Haenel, age 77, of Waddington, NY, passed away on August 21, 2024, at Massena Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, 60 Maple Street, Massena. 



Marty is survived by his wife, Vicky Haenel of Waddington, NY; their children, William F. Haenel II and his wife, Lizette, of Norwood, NY, Danielle LeClair and her husband, Michael, of Waddington, NY, Natalie McKnight and her husband, Travis of Chase Mills, NY, and Dustin Haenel and his companion, Amanda Perkins, of Waddington, NY; fourteen grandchildren, David, Samuel and his wife, Kimberly, Quentin, Benjamin, Gabriel, Leneah, Addison, Greyson, Kayson, Henderson, Noah, Isabella, Emilia, and Enzo; a sister, Ellen Mrozcko and her husband, Thomas, of Greenville, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marty is predeceased by his parents, William and Betty Haenel.



Marty was born on January 20th, 1947, in Ithaca, NY, to the late William F. and Betty (Thom) Haenel. Marty was a graduate of Gouverneur High School in 1965.

He attended Kent State College in Ohio, and North Country community college where he earned an associate degree.

Marty married Vicky Moulton on May 23, 1974, in Waddington, NY, with the justice of the peace officiating.

His varied career began as a radio announcer at WPDM in Potsdam, followed by roles as an animal technician for Dr. Bartlett in Madrid, NY, and an artificial insemination technician with Eastern AI.

Marty then transitioned to the technology field, working as a computer consultant at North Country Community College and as a computer technician for St. Lawrence Lewis BOCES and Albany BOCES.

He later owned and operated Clear Data Solutions with his son Dustin, servicing businesses in the North Country for nearly 40 years until his retirement.


Marty passed away leaving a legacy of dedication and service to his community.

Marty was deeply involved with the Boy Scouts, earning a Life Badge and participating in the 1960 Boy Scout Jamboree.

He also coached 5th and 6th grade basketball for Madrid-Waddington School.

Marty had a passion for computers, he enjoyed cooking and woodworking, he took pride in building several pieces.

He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, traveling in his 43' motor home, and camping at various locations, especially Myrtle Beach.

Marty will be remembered for his contributions to his community, his love for his family, and his many hobbies and interests.
