Malcolm Fye Jr., 80, Dickenson Center

DICKENSON CENTER - Malcolm Fye Jr., age 80. And so it was, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, with his family surrounding him & singing Amazing Grace, the Lord called him home.

His journey began on March 3rd, 1944 when Malcolm Charles Fye Jr. was born to Malcolm Fye Sr. & Sadie (Wiley) Fye in Malone, NY.

Malcolm married his sweetheart Edna Martin on January 23, 1965 in Dickinson Center, and together they were blessed with five wonderful children: Tammy (Jay) Daggett, Karen (Randy) Cox, Patsy (Rick) LaVoy, Malcolm (Eva) Fye III and Ruthie (John) Lamb, all of Dickinson Center. Malcolm also had 8 grandchildren: Malcolm (Britt) Fye IV, Hayley (Mike Ellis) Fye, Kaitlin (Robbie) Brady, Brayden (Dalys) Fye, Alyssa (Johnny) Psomos, Tyler (Keirstan) Daggett, Kyle (Noelle Fefee) Cox & Addison LaVoy, along with 15 great grandchildren.

“Boy” as Malcolm’s family nick-named him, started working beside his father peeling pulp in the Fye Family Logging business at the tender age of 7. During his career, Boy worked as a laborer for the Town of Dickinson and again years later as the Town Highway Superintendent.

He was also employed by the Malone Quarry and Alcoa, however, most of his life was spent in the logging business. It was what he knew and loved best.

Upon his retirement, it was with great pride that Boy passed the Fye Family Logging business on to his son, Malcolm Fye III and grandsons Malcolm IV & Brayden who together will continue the Fye Family Logging legacy.

Boy and his family operated a small farm on the property for years. Boy enjoyed life on “the farm”, spending much time with his family. He loved his tractor, deer hunting, his garden and sharing stories of the good ole days.

He never left home without his chewing tobacco in his pocket and his Trump hat perched proudly on his head. It was his grandchildren & great grandchildren, however, that put the sparkle in his eye and always a big smile on his face.

Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his family. Boy is survived by his wife Edna, their five children & their families as well as a sister Sadie Martin, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents Boy was predeceased by his sisters Donne Walker and Joan Essex as well as his brother Daniel Fye.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. At the family’s wishes, there will be no public viewing hours or funeral service.

A private family service/burial is planned, and Malcolm will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Dickinson Center.

It seems only fitting to consider planting a tree in Malcolm’s honor, reaching out a hand to an elderly person in need or making a donation to Hospice of the North Country.

Special thanks go out to Dr. Birinder Singh, Hospice of the North Country Staff and the amazing caregivers: Cayla Richards, Jennifer O’Connell, Nikki Jock, Tammy Slyman and Hailey Perry!
