It’s getting to be prime leaf peeping time in St. Lawrence County, according to the I LOVE NY foliage report for Oct. 2-8.
Observers say that leaves have changed as much as 35 percent in some areas of the St. Lawrence valley, while almost an 80 percent change is seen in the Adirondacks.
Peak foliage and 75-80% change is reported in Wanakena with shades of dark-red, yellow and rusty orange.
A 30-35% change is observed in Massena at the Seaway Visitor Center at Eisenhower Lock with muted yellow leaves.
Leaf transition of 25 percent is reported in Ogdensburg with muted orange and yellow leaves.
Meanwhile there is a 20% change in Canton with mostly orange leaves, and wisps of purple and red, according to observers.
Gorgeous peak foliage will be arriving throughout most of the Adirondacks this weekend, as well in many parts of the Catskills, while leaves in other parts of the state will generally range from just changing to midpoint of change. This is according to the field reports from more than 85 volunteer observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NY program.
Travelers seeking peak leaves should head to Adirondack locations including Wilmington, Newcomb, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Pleasant, Old Forge, Lowville and Wanakena.
