Streaming took up slightly more than one-third of TV viewing in 2023, beating cable (about 30%) and broadcast TV (about 23%) for consumer attention, according to Nielsen, an American media audience measurement firm. On average, a person now spends about $550 on streaming per year. Nearly a third  of users engage in cost-sharing arrangements, splitting the expense of streaming services with others. Some streaming services have started password-sharing crackdowns in an attempt to have more consumers pay up for using the service.
