GOUVERNEUR — The dedicated staff at Gouverneur Middle School are proud to announce a generous donation of $500 to the Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Fund. This contribution reflects a long-standing tradition and partnership between the school and the foundation, highlighting the strength and resilience of our community and the compassionate individuals who call it home.

In conjunction with this donation, the school district will host a "Pink Out" day on Friday, Oct. 4, in support of the upcoming 23rd Annual Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Walk on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. This initiative encourages students and staff to wear pink to raise awareness and show solidarity for those affected by breast and ovarian cancer.

Michael Hammond, Middle School Principal, shared, “The Gouverneur community comes together in support of those affected by breast and ovarian cancer. This walk is a wonderful opportunity for us to show our solidarity and compassion, reminding everyone that we are stronger together.”

Bonnie Bates, a staff member at Gouverneur Middle School, expressed her support for the initiative, stating, “Assistance, love, and support—the foundation goes above and beyond to help all of those it can, I am proud to be a part of this community.”

Chelsi Griffith, another staff member, shared her personal connection to the fund, saying, “The fund is one of the best there is. It helped support my gram in her time of need, giving her rides to appointments and financial support when needed.” I

In addition, Jerrilyn Patton highlighted the emotional support the fund provides: “Peace of mind, from gas cards to conversations about resources—the Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Fund is there to help.”

Furthermore, all funds raised from this week’s Dress Down Jean Days on Monday and Friday at Gouverneur School will further support the Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Fund financially. These efforts are not just about raising funds; they are about fostering a sense of community and support for those battling these diseases.

The Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Fund is dedicated to providing financial assistance and support to individuals in our community facing the challenges of these cancers. “We encourage everyone to join us in this meaningful effort as we work together to make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by breast and ovarian cancer,” said Hammond.
