Seeks to replace outgoing Legislator Gennett, continue work of fiscal responsibility

BRASHER FALLS -- Local businessman Terry Goodrich is seeking a seat on the St. Lawrence County legislature, aiming to replace outgoing Legislator John Gennett who is not seeking reelection.

In his announcement, Goodrich said he was committed to continuing the work Gennett began four years ago.

“I am honored to put my name forward to serve the residents of District 13,” said Goodrich. “John Gennett has promoted continued fiscal responsibility in Canton, and I am committed to maintaining services required and expected in this county while keeping the budget affordable to our taxpayers.”

In speaking with North Country This Week, Gennett said Goodrich was "the right man for the job," saying he was a "good businessman and a good man."

"I'm confident Terry will represent the district well with integrity and fresh ideas that will only continue to better our community and that of the county as a whole," Gennett said.

Goodrich said he main priorities, if elected, would be to keep the County budget balanced to minimize the tax burden on residents, while fostering conditions that "encourage economic growth and allow small businesses to create opportunities across the district and throughout the county."

A businessman himself, Goodrich is the president of Goodrich Refrigeration Inc., first assuming the role in 1995.

He said he is experienced in contracting, construction, budgeting and payroll, all skills that would benefit him in a seat on the legislature.

Goodrich also said he wanted to investigate the disparity in gasoline prices as compared to other areas throughout the North Country, something many have requested from the legislature and Comptroller.

Goodrich is also known for being civic minded as a 40-year member of the Brasher-Winthrop Fire Department.

An avid hiker, he is also an Adirondack 46er, Lake Placid 9er, Saranac Sixer and Tupper Lake Triad.

He also is an avid sportsman, possessing a lifetime Sportsman's license and concealed carry license,  while belonging to the Massena Rod & Gun Club, as well as the Beaver Pond Club, St. Regis Falls Sportsman's Club, Red Tavern Club and Adirondack Mountain Club.

He also is a member of the Tri-Town Trailblazers ATV and snowmobile club.

As the number of vehicle-Amish buggy related accidents continues to rise, Goodrich said he wanted to address those concerns and implement measures to attempt to lessen those accidents.

A former Chief and President of Tri-Town Rescue, Goodrich said he spearheaded "construction of the new buildings in Brasher Falls and Nicholville, collaborating with contractors, USDA Rural Development and the State Department of Health."

Goodrich also said he has experience in real property, currently serving as Chair of the Town of Brasher Board of Assessment and Review.

Having participated in the St. Lawrence Leadership Institute, a program aimed at developing future leaders in the North Country, Goodrich said he has the experience to be successful in the legislature.

He also said he will ensure that major projects in District 13 will favor the residents of Massena, Brasher and Lawrence.
