Fowler man taken into custody by sheriff in connection with shooting, charges pending

FOWLER -- A Fowler man has been taken into custody by St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Deputies in connection with an ongoing investigation of a shooting Tuesday, Oct. 6. Charges are pending.

According to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's office, deputies are actively investigating the shooting incident that occurred on Pond Road and was reported at 9:22 p.m. on Oct. 6.

Deputies responded to the call and located one victim with a gun shot wound to the arm, the sheriff's office said in a statement released late Wednesday.

The victim was transported by Gouverneur Rescue Squad and flown to SUNY Upstate Medical for treatment.

The suspect, Leon B. Wells, 51 of Fowler, was taken into custody with the assistance of the Northern Regional Special Response Team at a residence on Tanner Street in Dekalb Junction, the sheriff's office said.

The investigation is currently ongoing and charges are pending.

There is no threat to the public as this is an isolated incident, the sheriff said.

An update and charges will be provided as the investigation progresses.
