National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters are warning of potential flooding Friday into Saturday in St. Lawrence County. Now is the time to prepare, forecasters say.

A flood watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday, the service says.

Widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms are expected across much of Northern New York as the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Debby cross the region, NWS says.

Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches will possibly cause rivers and streams to rise sharply, and flooding may occur. In addition, briefly heavy rainfall rates may cause localized flash flooding.

Before the rain, highs today will reach near 80, with increasing clouds, the service says. Showers will likely begin overnight, with lows around 67.

Highs Friday will be near 77 with a 70% chance of rain, NWS says.

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8am and 11am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 77. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night

Showers, mainly before 4am. Low around 66. Southeast wind 7 to 11 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Saturday

A 30 percent chance of showers before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Mostly clear, with a low around 58. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Southwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
