Posted

LOUISVILLE - Edward Thomas McCarthy succumbed to cancer on September 28, 2024 in the comfort of his children’s home surrounded by family.  After a 25 year battle with cancer, Edward peacefully joined his loving wife, Florence and companion Judy McNamara in heaven.
Edward Thomas McCarthy was born on February 14, 1937 in Louisville, NY to Marjorie M. Brothers and Daniel Clement McCarthy.  He was married to Florence Elsie Snell on February 27, 1960 in Potsdam NY.  Edward and Florence filled their home having 6 children, Daniel Edward (Martha) Fayetteville, TN, Brian Milton, Chris Blain, Brett John (Miranda) Naples, FL Darren Walter (Hilda) Statesville, NC and Debra Allison Sheridan (Timothy) Salisbury, NC.
Edward graduated from Colton Pierrepont High School in 1955 and graduated from University of Massachusetts at Connecticut as a Certified Arborist, chemically certified in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Edward started work at an early age with Asplundh
Tree Company and New England Tree Company and advanced to become a general foreman with Niagara Mohawk.  He worked in the utility industry for many years and retired, moving to North Carolina.
In retirement, Edward and Florence spent many winters in the Florida Keys, making many new friends there.  In the Florida Keys,
Edward was an avid fisherman.  He fished every day that the wind allowed. Edward also spent much of his time during retirement remodeling homes in New York and North Carolina. While in New York, Edward spent many hours in the woods, looking for that illusive “Buck.” He was a Brunner Hill member and past member of the Weller Mountain Club.
Edward will always be remembered for his witty personality, ability to rattle off jokes for hours and his love for the great outdoors. Much of Edwards life was spent hunting, fishing and camping. He was a dedicated husband and father. Our family finds peace in knowing that he is reunited with his wife after 20 years.
Edward was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Jane Oagley, Royal Brothers, Richard F. McCarthy, Robert C. McCarthy and Rudy Charles McCarthy.
Surviving Edward in addition to his children are 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A special thank you to the people at Novant Hospice of Rowan County for their loving care and support thus allowing Edward to be home with family during his final days.
Edward will be laid to rest in a small private burial ceremony in the Spring of 2025 in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Potsdam, NY.
