MARCY -- Donald Lionel Latreille, 78, of Marcy, New York, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026, at Wynn Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Don was born in Massena, New York, on November 11, 1947.
He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1965. During his high school years, he proudly played football and baseball for the Crusaders, and after graduation, continued his love of football by playing with the semi-pro team, the Massena Warriors. Known affectionately as “Barrel”, he was a man with a strong work ethic, a generous heart, and a personality all his own.
Throughout his career, Don worked as a manufacturing supervisor at ICL, Lockheed, and Cogar, where he was known for his dedication and meticulous attention to detail. He later had his own contracting business, D&L Contracting, where his skill and craftsmanship were well known and admired.
Some of Don’s happiest memories were made on the baseball field, where he coached the team for his sons, David and DJ.
He loved spending time with his family, driving and taking care of his El Caminos and Lincoln, and enjoying a good pipe.
He was an avid collector of antiques, particularly vintage toys and signs, and a devoted New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan, always cheering on his teams through every season.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille; his children, Sheri (Peter) Devine; Darci (Jim) Hinman; Michael (Jennifer) Latreille; David Latreille and Donald “DJ” Latreille; his stepchildren Jacqueline (Patrick) Mahoney; Joseph (Sheryl) Alberico and Jennifer Alberico (James Adams); his sister, Diane Maness; and many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lionel and Cecile (Faille) Latreille.
Our family extends our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wynn Hospital, 5 East, for the kindness, compassion, and excellent care they provided during his brief stay.
A special thank you to Tom Welch for being such a wonderful friend and for standing by his side during his final days. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
As per Don’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
Family and friends are invited to attend Committal Services at Calvary Cemetery, 2407 Oneida Street, Utica, on Thursday, October 29 at 10:00am.
