MASSENA -- A special jamboree with music and food is planned for Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1-7 p.m. for David LaVean and his family at Amvets Post 4, 12 Andrews St.
LaVean, a Navy Veteran, is currently facing a serious health crisis and has been dealing with significant and related financial challenges. LaVean suffered a massive heart attack and while treating that event, he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
He subsequently suffered a series of strokes which delayed his cardiac recovery and cancer treatment. LaVean is not only alert and cognizant of his situation but also a stubborn fighter and working hard to move forward in his health journey, his family said.
LaVean lives and has worked his entire adulthood in the local area and recently retired at 72 years old. He and his wife have not only raised their two children here, they are also raising their three young grandchildren.
Family members have been by his side 24/7 since July 24th helping to make sure he receives the care and support he needs, first at UVM in Burlington, VT and now at AHMC in Malone.
The jamboree is being organized by family and friends as a way to show support and help ease some of the financial burden on LaVean and his family.
The post is providing the venue and is helping organize and collect funds for the benefit.
Donations of raffle items, monetary contributions, services or gift certificates are being accepted by the organizers for the event.
