To The Editor:
The St. Lawrence County Legislature’s Republican Caucus is officially endorsing Troy Besaw in the three-way race to represent Gouverneur and Depeyster in District 5.
Troy won the contested Republican nomination for the position over the incumbent. He was also chosen by the St. Lawrence County Conservative Committee as their nominee to carry both parties’ banners into the election.
Troy has a proven record. During his eight years of service on the Gouverneur Village Board, he showed he is not afraid to stand up, and raise questions, even when he upsets the status quo.
During his campaign, Troy has shown a real commitment to transparency, reporting weekly on his Facebook page about what issues St. Lawrence County faces and what the legislature is doing to make life better for the people of the North Country.
Troy has worked hard to understand the issues facing our region by regularly attending the board’s weekly committee and monthly legislative meetings over the past several months to educate himself so if the voters choose him, he will take his position already armed with a strong understanding of the responsibilities facing the legislature.
We believe Troy’s record shows he shares the kind of strong, conservative, responsible approach to local government that helped the Republican legislative majority bring St. Lawrence County back from the brink of fiscal disaster that led voters to overwhelmingly reject years of irresponsible Democratic rule. With Democrats now offering a host of new, irresponsible, unnecessary, and in some cases, duplicative spending schemes, now more than ever, we need to elect strong Conservatives like Troy who will join us in working hard to hold the line on the tax rate so working families can afford to keep their homes.
