OGDENSBURG — It’s official. Congressman Elise Stefanik will have a satellite office in the basement of City Hall.
Staff from Stefanik’s office were not yet able to provide specifics about who would be staffed at the office or when it would be up in running, but said they would provide more information when it becomes available.
Under the proposal Stefanik would lease space in city hall at a cost of $1,000 per month for a term of two years and an option to extend.
The space was previously leased by New York Sen. Patty Ritchie. Recently elected Sen. Mark Walczyk won the 42nd Senate District seat, but the Senate district now includes a much smaller portion of St. Lawrence County. Although the district still includes Ogdensburg there has been no word as to whether or not Walczyk intends to have staff available in the city at a future date.
City Councilors are hopeful that the office will make for smoother communication between the congresswoman and the city as well as St. Lawrence County Constituents.
Stefanik recently secured a fifth term in congress after defeating Matt Castelli with 59.7% of the vote in November.
She is the highest ranking Republican House Republican and the highest ranking Republican woman in Congress.
Her district includes all of St. Lawrence County and a large swath of Northern and Upstate New York.
