Community involvement theme of this year’s Harvest Festival in Norwood

NORWOOD – First-year event organizers Dick and Sharon Bastille are gearing up for the 53rd edition of the Harvest Festival slated Saturday, Sept. 21 in Norwood.

“This year’s festival is being taken to a greater level where there will be more than arts, crafts, churches, gardeners, food, and local organizations “Celebrating the Works of Their Hands” as vendors,” the Bastilles noted in an email to North Country This Week.

Festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the village

Initial events and activities will include a “Happy Trails Bike Parade” at 11 a.m. when children up to age 10 will stroll through the park. Decorated strollers, wagons, tricycles, or training bikes and parade past the vendors and delight those present. Fall, western, patriotic, or other creative bikes will line up at the playground at 10:45 a.m.

“Look for the Scarecrow with the checkered flag,” the Bastilles said.

To register and receive the regulations for the parade contact 315-353-5054.
Also, several of Norwood’s churches will be hosting various games or activities such as ugly pumpkin painting, guessing the weight of the Big pumpkin, pumpkin bowling, and face painting.

“We will also have a “build a scarecrow relay race” following the bike parade and at 1:00 dance the Virginia Reel in the grass by the band stand. You may sit on the square bales of hay if you just want to watch or rest,” the email said.

Live music from local artists and other activities with arts and crafts will also be present throughout the day.

A favorite addition this year is that several of the Norwood businesses are making scarecrows to represent their business and these scarecrows will be set up around the park for festive decorations and for giving directions.

The creativity of Webster’s Meat Market, Simply Yarn, Merriman’s Lumber, Cornerstone, Second Chance Thrift, Laurie’s Casual Cuts, Norwood News Cafe, and Kid’s Playce Day Care will be on display.

“Come to shop, eat, watch, or join in the festivities,” the Bastilles stated.

Anyone interested in being a vendor can sign up by contacting 315-353-5054 or sending an email to norwoodvillagenews@gmail.com.
