COLTON — The Colton-Pierrepont Central School District that Shelby Hosmer, health education and physical education teacher, has been selected as the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD) Health Teacher of the Year.
This prestigious statewide honor recognizes educators who demonstrate outstanding teaching practices, a deep commitment to student well-being, and leadership within the field of health education. Recipients are selected based on their innovation, professional excellence, and positive impact on students, colleagues, and the larger school community.
Principal Jennifer McKinley praised the achievement, saying, “We are incredibly proud of Shelby. This recognition reflects not only exceptional instructional skill, but also a genuine dedication to the health and wellness of our students. Her work embodies our district’s mission to prepare responsible, respectful, and resourceful learners.”
Throughout her time at CPCS, Hosmer has distinguished herself by building strong relationships with students, designing engaging and relevant curriculum, and promoting a proactive approach to physical, mental, and social-emotional health. Her leadership has contributed to a positive school climate and has strengthened the district’s comprehensive health and wellness programming.
She was awarded with this prestigious honor at the 2025 NYS AHPERD Conference, where educators from across the state gathered to celebrate excellence in health and physical education. In addition, Diane Wolf, retired PE teacher from CPCS, was presented with the "Amazing Persons” award for the NYS APHERD Northern Zone.
“These awards reflect the exceptional educators we are fortunate to have at Colton-Pierrepont,” added McKinley. “We congratulate Mrs. Hosmer and Ms. Wolf on their well-deserved honors.”
