Clarkson University nabs fifth, ninth Aug. 25 in Major League Fishing collegiate tournament in Massena

MASSENA -- Major League Fishing wrapped up another big weekend in Massena, this time capping off the weekend with the Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by Yeti event on August 25.

After all was said and done it was the University of Alabama coming out on top with Cooper Gilroy, Middlebury, Connecticut, and Hayden O'Barr, Scottsboro, Alabama, winning the event with 25 pounds, 1 ounce off of five fish.

With the Crimson Tide duo securing the victory, the club is now qualified for the 2025 MLF College Fishing National Championship as well.

Also qualifying for the national championship were Mansfield University, Lamar State College and the University of Vermont.

Just missing out on the opportunity to compete in the national championship was Clarkson University, which fielded two teams in the event.

Representing Clarkson University were Tyler Combes, Martville, N.Y., and James Gillis, Milford, N.H., who brought in five bass for 19 pounds, 6 ounces.

The duo of Combes and Gillis came in fifth place on the event.

Also representing Clarkson University were Carter Jackson, Hogansburg, N.Y., and Aleksander Smietana, Chenango Forks, N.Y., who hauled in five bass for a total weight of 18 pounds, 1 ounce to finish ninth in the 30 team field.

The Abu Garcia College Fishing Presented by YETI event on the St. Lawrence River Presented by Simms was hosted by the Town of Massena. The next tournament for MLF College Fishing anglers will be the Abu Garcia College Fishing Presented by YETI event on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Sept. 27 in Brookeland, Texas.
