Clarkson Hockey adds new coach and starts search for another

POTSDAM -- The off season continues to bring big changes to the Golden Knights coaching staffs for both Men's and Women's Hockey.

Clarkson is excited to announce the addition of Sebastian Ragno to the Men's Hockey Coaching Staff, in the role of the newly created Assistant Coach Position. Ragno will join, Ceglarski Head Coach, JF Houle, Associate Coach Brooks, and Assistant Coach Schneider on the Men's bench this season.

In the summer of 2023, the NCAA expanded the size allowable for college hockey programs from 2 paid assistants to 3 full time assistants.  In the 2023-24 season both the Men and Women shared Cam Basarab as that 3rd assistant.  This season, Cam has been named the assistant exclusively with the Women's Hockey staff and Sebastion becomes the 3rd assistant with the Men's Program.

Ragno comes to the Knights after spending last season with Stonehill College, where he worked with goaltenders and assisted in skill sessions and recruiting.  Sebastian also worked with the goaltenders from the Women's program at Brown University.  Ragno has also worked with Stop It Goaltending in Foxboro and has been on staff at multiple USA Hockey Development Camps.

With the Knights, Ragno will work with goaltenders and run on ice skill sessions along with help with recruiting.

The coaching staff also announced the addition of Mike Clougherty as the Video Coach/Hockey Operations.  Mike will be a graduate assistant as he will enroll in the Masters of Business Administration program at the Reh School of Business.  Mike graduated from Boston College in May of 2024 with a Corporate Systems Major.  While at BC, Mike was the Associate Head Coach with the Valley Jr. Warriors of the EHL and ran his own hockey skill development program, Claw Hockey.  Mike will be responsible for supporting the coaching staff in all video breakdown and implementation.

The program also added a new staff member when Holden Sarosy joined the program this summer as the new Head Men's Hockey Equipement Manager, replacing Alex Buckingham who headed to West Point to join Army Hockey.  Holden is a SUNY Cortland graduate and was the Head Equipment Manager for the Red Dragons, worked at SUNY Cortland's arena, and has also worked with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch.

Clarkson Men's Hockey will open their 103rd season of hockey on Oct. 5th when they host Canisius at Cheel Arena.

Cam Basarab will move to the Women's staff after a season where he helped the Clarkson Goaltenders become tops in the nation in many categories and Michelle Pasiechnyk was named the Women's College Hockey Goalie of the Year by the Hockey Commissioners Association.

Coach Desrosiers has also announced the addition of Jasmine Lauwers as Video Coach/Hockey Operations.  Lauwers graduated from Sacred Heart in May 2024 with a Sports Communication and Media degree.  She has extensive experience in video/streaming and worked with the Pioneers Broadcasting Department for 2 years at SHU.  Jasmine will be a graduate assistant as she enrolls in the Masters of Business Administration program at the Reh School of Business.

Finally, a national search is underway to find an assistant coach to replace Tony Maci, who accepted the Head Coaching job at Union.  Maci has spent the last eight years with the Golden Knights, serving as the top assistant on Matt Desrosiers' staff before recently earning a promotion to Associate Head Coach. During his time on the bench, the Golden Knights won a pair of Division I national championships in 2017 and 2018, reaching four Frozen Fours and making the NCAA Tournament seven times. As the team's recruiting coordinator and skills coach, Maci has recruited and developed two Patty Kazmaier Award winners, nine AHCA All-Americans and 38 All-ECAC Hockey honorees during his time in Potsdam.
