CANTON – The Village of Canton will begin its regular fall leaf and brush collection Monday, Oct. 5. Pickups will continue through Friday, Nov. 20.
As part of its recycling and sustainability efforts, the Village has eliminated the use of plastic bags for leaves and brush. All yard waste must be placed in paper leaf bags, which are available at most local stores.
Clean brush should be stacked in an orderly fashion. Leaves and grass must be bagged in paper bags. Branches must be less than 6 inches in diameter and less than 10 feet long.
Brush piles are limited to one per household and may be no larger than 4 feet high, 4 feet wide and 10 feet long.
Items that will not be collected include plastic bags, root balls, brush mixed with soil, rocks, and brush placed in boxes or trash containers. The Village also will not collect brush originating from another property or material cut or trimmed by contractors. Property owners who hire contractors are responsible for removing that material.
During the collection period, crews will follow a route covering approximately 16 miles of Village roads. Once the route is completed, crews will repeat it to ensure all neighborhoods are covered.
Questions about brush pickup can be directed to 315-386-2452 or RDelorme@cantonny.gov.
