St. Lawrence County Democrats are endorsing more than a dozen candidates but notably did not back any candidate in the New York 21st Congressional District Democratic primary.
The St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee announced endorsements for eight candidates seeking to challenge Republican incumbents in the county legislature.
In District 3, Adam Jarrett will challenge incumbent Republican Joseph Lightfoot. District 7, currently represented by Republican Rick Perkins, will see a contest between Perkins and Democratic challenger Ginger Storey-Welch.
District 8 is represented by Republican Ben Hull, who has not announced his intent to seek reelection. Democrat Paula Sturge has received the party’s endorsement for that seat. Independent candidate Bob Washo is also running.
In District 11, Democrat Amber Spinner will challenge incumbent Republican Glenn Webster. District 12 is currently held by Republican John Burke, who has not announced plans to seek another term. The Democratic Committee endorsed Patrick Brady to run for that seat.
Republican John Gennett, who represents District 13, has also declined to seek reelection. Democrat Setcher Krywanczyk has been nominated as a challenger as she runs against Republican challenger Terry Goodrich. In District 14, Democratic incumbent Nicole Terminelli is not seeking reelection, and Kristy Baker has received the Democratic nomination.
District 15 is represented by two-term Republican incumbent Rita Curran, who will face Democratic challenger John Michno.
Democratic incumbents Anthony Levato of District 9 and Margaret Haggard of District 10 are both seeking reelection to retain their seats on the St. Lawrence County Legislature.
County Democrats also endorsed Cassie Robbins-Forbus, who attended the committee’s Feb. 24 meeting to discuss her candidacy in the 49th Senate District against Sen. Mark Walczyk. Melissa Seale was endorsed for the 45th Senate District, where she is running against Sen. Dan Stec.
Additional endorsements include Dennis Gordon for the 117th Assembly District against Ken Blankenbush, James Sienkiewycz for county coroner, and Christine Clark for Supreme Court, 4th Judicial District.
Lisbon resident Blake Gendebien did not receive an endorsement from the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee but was backed by the Clinton County Democratic Committee. According to WPTZ News 5, that endorsement reportedly prompted several attendees to leave the meeting. Gendebien is facing a primary challenge from Dylan Hewitt of Glens Falls, who has also received support from the Working Families Party.
The committee also endorsed Kathy Hochul for governor, Letitia James for attorney general, and Tom DiNapoli for state comptroller.
