Alvin L. “Charley” Deon, 66, Brasher Falls

BRASHER FALLS -- Alvin L. "Charley" Deon, 66, passed away Friday June 7, 2024, in the comfort of his sister's home surrounded by his family and under the care of hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

A graveside service will be held on Monday June 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Carville Cemetery in Brasher with a reception to follow at Pikes Place from 3 to 7 p.m., located at 138 Co. Rt. 50 in Brasher Falls.

Charley was born on February 4, 1958, in Potsdam to the late Donald P. and Allison (Goldie-Castle) Deon and attended Salmon River High School.

During his life, Alvin worked diligently in various occupations, including milking cows on McCuin Farm, stitching for Tru Stitch in Bombay, school bus driver for SLC Head start, Bernie's Construction, Garrow's Construction, and operating for Richardson Foods and Skidders. He spent his later years as a mechanic for The Tribe in Akwesasne.

Charley enjoyed being outdoors and camping, especially on the river at the Pine Ridge Campground. His favorite western to watch was Bonanza.

He is survived by three sons, Charlie J. Deon, Ernest P. Deon (Kortney Trippany), of Massena, and Clinton E. Deon (April Stuart) of Brasher Falls; grandchildren, Alexis, Tucker, Nova, and Atlas, Shania and Aliyah; and great-grandchildren, Brielle and Cedar.

Survivors also include his brothers and sisters, Thelma M. Savage, Clyde P. Deon, Melvin W. Deon, Ann M. Deon, Steven B. Deon, Mary L. Rafter, Sally J. Savage, and Freda J. Merrill; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Flowers are respectfully declined, and those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions in Charley's honor can be made to the Tri - Town Rescue Squad or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley Co.

As Charley would say, keep it "short and sweet and easy."
