MASSENA -- Alcoa has moved into the next round of "Coolest Thing Made in New York" contest sponsored by the Business Council of New York State Inc.

Forty-five businesses applied for this year's contest, all of which competed in the initial popular vote, with the top 16 vote getters moving into the head-to-head bracket tournament.

Alcoa will now face off against Cabot Creamery Cooperative in Chateaugay, E.L. Designs of Cambridge, General Motors in Buffalo, Nightride Thermal Inc. of Brooklyn, Rifton of Rifton, Stewart's Shops Corp. of Ballston Spa and the Raymond Corporation of Greene.

“The Business Council is thrilled to host the Coolest Thing Made in New York Contest, shining a spotlight on New York’s incredible manufacturing sector and the unique and exceptional products made right here in our state,” said Heather Mulligan, President and CEO of The Business Council of New York State.  “Thank you to all the nominees who have participated in the contest to share their Made in New York product and congratulations to those manufacturers advancing. I encourage the public to show their support for the Coolest Thing Made in New York by voting for their favorite!”

The statewide initiative aims to highlight the innovation, creativity and manufacturing excellence of businesses throughout the state.

State officials say they hope they provide a platform for manufacturers to showcase their products and highlight their vital role in driving New York's economy forward.

Weekly winners will be decided by a public vote, with the round of eight voting ending Aug. 18.

The final two contestants will be invited to the Sagamore Resort to showcase their products to the more than 250 attendees of the Business Council's Annual Meeting, where voting will be allowed until the winner is announced on the evening of Sept. 19 at the awards dinner hosted by the Business Council.

The round of four voting will be held Aug. 19-25, with the head-to-head voting for the final two occurring Sept. 2-19.
