POTSDAM — Old Market Coffee in the Bateman building at the sight of the former Park Brothers Coffee recently celebrated its first year in business.

Since opening in August 2021, owners Josh Puffer and Jerriel Martin have been providing a fresh, refined coffee and creperie experience.

"Our mission is to provide exceptional service and a peaceful, companionable atmosphere. The hope we have in Jesus inspires us in our home, work and community,” Martin told North Country This Week.

“Our goal is to serve our community with excellent coffee, our delicious crepes, and a truly welcoming and inviting atmosphere. We love to see friends meeting and students study in our space,” she said.

This will be the first café the pair have opened but they bring other business experience to the table to manage the new shop.

Eight people are employed at Old Market.

Old Market buys its coffee beans from a small roastery in North Carolina. “He’s a personal friend of ours and does an amazing job at being super consistent and roasting an amazing coffee for us,” Martin said.

The pair are also offering fresh baked crepes in addition to various roasts and brews.

“We have sweet and savory crepes or a Build Your Own Crepe which lets you choose what you are wanting. Also, we have a yogurt parfait and baked goods. The cinnamon rolls are a customer favorite,” Martin said.

Puffer and Martin have no events planned at the moment but will be offering seasonal drinks.

The shop celebrated its first year on Aug. 6.

“This was a very fun event where we had free coffee, cookies, and donuts. Plus we gave away 10 door prizes. We loved seeing the community come in and are so grateful for all of the support and well wishes that we got from our customers. To the community, thanks so much for your kindness and support! We look forward to many more years of serving you,” Martin said.
