Former member returns to Canton school board

CANTON — Canton Central School has a new board member.

Phillip Burnett Sr. returns to the board and will fill a seat vacated by Patrick Hanss. Hanss stepped down a few weeks ago citing the board “losing its vision” as his major reason for vacating the seat.

Burnett has served on the school board in the past. He was elected for the first term during the 2007-08 school year, through 2017, with a one-year lapse during 2013-14 school year.

Burnett is a US veteran, and worked at Corning, Inc. for 32 years before retiring.

He and his wife have resided in Rensselaer Falls since 1971. Their three children graduated from Canton Central School.

During his service to the District, Burnett assisted with hiring three building administrators and helped the negotiation process.

“His experience and insight is most appreciated,” CCS officials said.
