D.A. announces conviction of Ogdensburg man for predatory sexual assault upon a child

CANTON — St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary M. Pasqua, announced that Clifford W. Mayette, 53, of Ogdensburg, was found guilty today of 6 counts of Predatory Sexual Assault upon a Child, 1 count of Rape in the Second Degree, 3 counts of Rape in the Third Degree, 1 count of Criminal Sex Act in the Second Degree, and 2 counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, by a St. Lawrence County trial jury.

Evidence at trial established that between 2012 and 2021, the defendant perpetrated multiple acts of rape and sexual abuse against a child with whom he was acquainted.

The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 19, 2022. He faces a maximum of six consecutive life sentences in prison.

“This defendant committed horrific acts of sexual abuse on an innocent child for 10 years and has now been brought to justice. My office will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute sexual offenders that prey upon our children. I commend the bravery and courage of the victim to come forward in this case,” Pasqua said.

D.A. Pasqua commends Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Joshua Haberkornhalm and Assistant District Attorney Matthew Peabody for their hard work and skilled prosecution. He also thanks the Ogdensburg Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations for their assistance with the prosecution.
