Five St. Lawrence County Schools (Canton Central School, Morristown Central School, Lisbon Central School, Edwards-Knox Central School, and Parishville-Hopkinton Central School) had the honor of hosting Jacy Good and her husband Steve Johnson, national public speakers and advocates for phone-free roads.

These presentations were made available from a grant from the National Highway Safety Administration through a grant from the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee and SADD National.

May 18, 2008 was meant to be one of the best days for Jacy Good, but that all changed, on her way home from her college graduation. Jacy’s family vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler swerving to avoid a teenager talking on his cell phone, resulting in the death of her parents and leaving Jacy partially paralyzed on her left side. They now speak about their personal journeys of healing, in the hopes of raising awareness about the very preventable risks of using a cell phone behind the wheel. Along with their individual stories, they explain some of the brain science that debunks the myth of “multi-tasking.”

Jacy and Steve have traveled to 42 states, visited three different countries, and spoken at more than 1,000 events. They have appeared on Oprah, Say Yes to the Dress (TLC) and ran a PSA through AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign. They work diligently to educate as many people about the dangers of distracted driving in the hopes that it may touch at least one person and save a life.
