To the Editor:
Being retired, time becomes meaningless. In order to not be too complicated, I decided to travel around. Look at things, so to speak. Being from Ottawa Canada, I like traveling to northern New York.
Ogdensburg, Potsdam, Watertown and Massena are my favorite places. I patronized the local businesses. I play a bit of golf and try to take in some of the sporting events.
I’m sure you’re aware, in Ottawa we have two local newspapers. Both owned by Post Media. Neither paper publishes on Mondays and all statutory holidays. Imagine Ottawa being the Capital of Canada. By the way, neither paper covers local issues in any detail. Local sports, except for the hockey Senators, are ignored. Community newspapers were abolished years ago.
My travels to New York state always include picking up a copy of the North Country This Week paper. It’s refreshing to read local news for a change. I probably know what’s going on in upstate New York than I know in Ottawa.
Keep up the good work and I hope you’re publishing for at least another 40 years.
