Day at the Farm

NORTH LAWRENCE — The free, annual “Day at the Farm” will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.at the Stauffer Farms this year. Hawkins Point Wildlife Festival

MASSENA —Hawkins Point Wildlife Festival 2023 will offer a free day of family fun on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Hawkins Point Visitor Center. Live animal exhibits, nature displays, arts and crafts, entertainment and movies in the theater will be offered. Model train show

Migratory bird walk

Clarksboro Trail hike

POTSDAM – The Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will hike the Tooley Pond Road “Clarksboro Trail” Saturday, Sept. 23. The club will explore the new trail to an overlook which has a lovely view of Twin Falls. 2.2 miles RT, 250 ft elevation gain. A poet, author, and teacher, Karyn Crispo’s collection of poems, Building a Second Home, was nominated for the Massachusetts Book Award and the Pen New England Literary Award. Crispo leads writing workshops for those incarcerated at the local county jail and is an advocate for restorative justice. Free and open to the public.

Poetry with Purpose

POTSDAM — SLC Arts will host Poetry with Purpose at the Potsdam Public Library, 2 Park St., on Tuesday, Sept. 26 featuring author Rebecca Pelky. Pelky is an assistant professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Clarkson University, she teaches film studies, literature, and creative writing. Pelky’s second collection of poetry, Through a Red Place, won the 2021 Perugia Press Prize. Through a Red Place is a bilingual collection of poems, written in Mohegan and English, which responds to archival, historical, and field research to consider how Native and non-Native people have historically utilized the same land.

Driver safety class

MASSENA — Massena Senior Citizens will host the last AARP Driver Safety course for the year on Sept. 27 and 28 at the Community Center, 61 Beach St. Class sessions run from 1:30-5 p.m. each day and are open to all drivers — regardless of age. Geology talk

CANTON – Geologist William deLorraine will discuss some of the interesting minerals found in Gouverneur and the geology of the larger region at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m. St. Lawrence County has long been known by geologists and manufacturers for its rich mineral deposits. One of the longest continually-operating mines in the region is Balmat near Gouverneur. Most recently, Bill co-authored the Collectors Guide to the Balmat Mining District, St. Lawrence County, NY. There is a $5 suggested donation; members are free.

Bayside Cemetery hike

POTSDAM – The Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club organizes a short scenic walk at Bayside Cemetery on Back Hannawa Road every Thursday in September, starting at 7:30 a.m. The two-mile hike takes about an hour and is rated easy. Rummage sale

Recovery River Run and Family Fun Fest

OGDENSBURG — The third annual Recovery River Run 5K and a new Family Fun Fest will be held Saturday, Sept. 30. Registration for the 5K will be at Ogdensburg Free Academy’s Golden Dome, beginning at 9 a.m., with the walk/run beginning at 10 a.m. Pre-register online at Valley Recovery Center’s Facebook page. A Family Fun Fest with vendors, free concessions, family games and crafts, will be offered at Lockwood Civic Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., followed by a family movie at 1 p.m.

Superhero 5K

LOUISVILLE – Massena Hospital Foundation is hosting the first St. Lawrence Superhero 5K Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 9 a.m. on the Richard’s Landing Bike Trail, a wide, crushed gravel trail that runs along the mighty St. Lawrence River. Cost: $25 for 10 and older, open to runners and walkers of all skill levels. The first 100 finishers will receive a St. Lawrence Superhero 5K Challenge medal sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. Juried exhibit opens

OGDENSBURG — The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2023 New York State Juried Art Exhibition will open Saturday, Sept. 30, with a reception from 2-4 p.m. Entry to the New York State Juried Art Exhibit is $10, or is included in general admission to the Museum. Many of the works on display will be for sale. One third of the proceeds benefits the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist. Haunted Hayride

BRASHER FALLS — The Tri-Town Annual Haunted Hayride will be held Sat., Sept. 30, at 94 Leary Flint Rd., Brasher Falls.
