Vaughn G. Santimaw, 77, formerly of Massena

FLORIDA –  Vaughn G. Santimaw, age 77, passed away on May 6, 2024, in Englewood, FL, with his loving family by his side. There will be a graveside service on Friday, July 26, 2024, in Calvary Cemetery, Massena at 10:30am. Arrangements are under the care of the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. A luncheon to follow immediately after the graveside service, at the Massena Elks Lodge located at 20 Bowers Street in Massena.

Born on February 23, 1947, the son of James and Yvonne (Gardner) Santimaw. Vaughn graduated from Holy Family/Massena Central in 1966 and then from Hudson Valley College in 1971 with a Business Degree. Vaughn loved the sport of Basketball; he was captain of his team for four years. Playing his favorite sport, he developed a special friendship with his coach Jerry Welch and his teammates. In 1992 he was inducted into the Massena Hall of Fame. He would frequently come back to his hometown to visit with his friends and family. Vaughn was an avid animal caregiver, having many cats and dogs throughout his life. He met his best friend and wife Mary E. Ritman and the two were married on March 15, 1986. Vaughn was employed as a plant tender, having worked in many Florida area’s tending to the plants in local business.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his sister Mary Santimaw of Massena, a niece Arianna of Massena and step-sister Connie MCarthy. His fur babies, “Buzz” and “Sammie” He was predeceased by his parents, his brother James and step-mother Patricia Santimaw-Flynn.
