MASSENA -- Mayor Tim Currier and Town Supervisor Steve O'Shaughnessy have each declared states of emergency in both the village and town of Massena.
The state of emergency began at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18 and will remain in effect until midnight April 20.
"This State of Emergency has been declared due to the public health emergency caused by world-wide outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the effects of its extreme risk of person-to-person transmission throughout the United States and New York State, significantly affecting the life and health of our residents, as well as the economy, and is an emergency that impacts the health, security, and safety of the public," the state of emergency declaration reads. "As the Chief Executive of Village of Massena, Timmy J. Currier and as the Chief Executive of the Town of Massena, Steve O'Shaughnessy, we exercise the authority given us under Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, to preserve the public safety and hereby render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of this Municipality. We hereby direct all departments and agencies of Village & Town of Massena to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public infrastructure, and provide such emergency assistance deemed necessary."
