Toni P. Savoca, 98, Massena

MASSENA/FAIRPORT – Toni P. Savoca, 98, a lifelong resident of Massena, passed away Monday afternoon, October 7, 2024 at Rochester General Hospital.

Toni was born in Massena on January 5, 1926 in Massena, the son of the late Peter and Carmella (Tuscano) Savoca. He attended Massena schools, where he graduated in 1944. After his graduation, Toni entered the US Army, serving in Germany during World War II. Prior to his discharge in 1946, he was awarded 2 Battle Stars and a Bronze Star.

After discharge, he continued in the US Army Reserves until 1958. On October 15, 1949, he married Anita L. LaMarche at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massena, with Rev. Charles Flaherty, officiating. Anita predeceased him on December 4, 2018.

Toni first worked at J.B Kelly Company for a short time before starting at Alcoa, where he continued until his retirement in 1986 as a supervisor in the machine shop. Always active within his community, Toni was a member of the Italian-American Civic Association, Massena Aluminum Historical

Association, and the all the local veteran’s organizations, where he served as an officer for many years. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he volunteered on the bereavement committee for many years. Toni was an avid gardener, enjoyed bowling, traveling, and playing cards.

Toni is survived by his children, Kathryn “Kate” Savoca of Rochester and Steven and Laura Savoca of Fairport; his daughter-in-law, Wilhelmina Savoca of Deer Park, Illinois; 9 grandchildren and 7 spouses and 18 great grandchildren; his sister, Patricia McGrath of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Michael Savoca on September 26, 2009; a grandson, Michael Jason Savoca on December 7, 1973; his brothers, Thomas and Santo Savoca; and his sisters, Julia Boyer, Angeline Frehse, Pauline Schuck, and Mary Mattingly.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where friends may call on October 27, 2024 from 1-4:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on October 28, 2024 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
