Thomas G. Hazel, 96, Massena

MASSENA – Thomas G. Hazel, 96, a longtime resident of Dana Street, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 11, 2024 at Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Tom was born October 11, 1927 in Massena, the son of the late George and Edith (Richards) Hazel. He attended Massena Central School, where he graduated before entering the United States Navy in 1944. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1946. On November 20, 1948, he married Mary Claire Castagnier at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. J.M. Bellamy, officiating. Claire predeceased him on June 25, 2023.
Tom was a police officer for the Village of Massena for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was formerly a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion.
Tom is survived by his son, Thomas C. Hazel of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Willis, Murland, Waynard, Leon, Donald, and Gordon Hazel; and his sisters, Helen Bennett, Mary Billings, and Leona Whalen.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where services will be held privately with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
