QUOTE: THe Deer.... THe Deer.... THe TAme Deer
THe Deer.... THe Deer... THey are Wild Deer no more... Living in close proximity to Nature-Loving Humans has tamed them.
THe Deer of Colton's Green Pond have become 4-Legged Neighbors to my Brother Don and me... As another all-too-brief North Country Summer comes to an end... Are The TAme Deer of Green Pond soon to lose their lives to hunters? So tame... Hunting? Or shooting tame Animals in a barnyard?
I grew up Deer hunting with my Father here in Wild Nature's NW Adirondacks... I've lived on the meat of Wild Beaver in remote roadless places where there are no grocery stores for hundreds of miles... I've been an outdoorsman.... Deer hunter… Trout fisherman... Photographer... Nature writer and activist
As Colton's population has grown, the residents... Both human and wild are coming into closer and closer contact.... Deer which once fled on first sight now stand gazing curiously at us… Wide-eyed and fearless
My point is that as times change we humans have choices about how we respond to changing times.... I have decided in my Heart to go door-to-door around Green Pond asking my neighbors the question “Don't THe TAme Deer of Green Pond deserve better from all of us than to lose their lives for trusting us?"
As a member of our newly-created environmental group... "Living Lightly on Earth"... I'm visiting my Neighbors in the spirit of living lightly… And inviting them to join us on our weekly conference call... 7 PM Sundays... Contact donaldhassig@gmail.com END QUOTE
