CANTON — April 21-27 is National Volunteer Appreciation Week and county legislators want to honor those who provide volunteer support and make a difference in their communities.

Legislators approved the resolution for the proclamation during the April 1 full board meeting.

Officials say the week of recognition will highlight the importance of each volunteer and their contributions “made at a time when support is needed more than ever.”

“The sharing of time, skill, empathy and creativity of an individual is vital to the inclusivity, strength and well-being of a community, and St. Lawrence County is very fortunate to have many citizens who take time out of their busy lives to volunteer,” officials wrote.

Volunteers play a key role in their communities and are fundamental to the county to meet the many challenging moments that arise, contributing tot he quality of life in the county, legislators say.

“The Board of Legislators wishes to thank all its volunteers, including, but not limited to, those who assist in the Nutrition Program each week serving older adults, all the volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel, volunteer drivers, and everyone who donates their time and efforts to serve,” legislators wrote.

They went on further, encouraging all citizens “to embrace the spirit of giving, engage in acts of kindness, and contribute to their communities, and more importantly to recognize and applaud individuals who make a difference each day with their selfless actions of volunteerism.”
