Richard W. Amo, 92, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- A visitation for Richard W. Amo, 92, of Ogdensburg will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 11:30 am– 1:30 pm at Frary Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating.

Mr. Amo died on Monday; May 27th, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.

Arrangements are under the care direction of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Richard W. Amo was born on October 10th, 1931, in Ogdensburg, he was the son of the late Edward and Florence (Rochester) Amo.

He was a 1951 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy, he transferred to OFA from St. Mary’s Academy in 7th grade. While in high school he worked at the Ogdensburg Journal and the New York State Highway Department.

He played four years of varsity football for Coach Blake. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he would serve until 1955.

While home on leave he married Patricia Wells on June 6th, 1953.

He would follow his active-duty service in the United States Army Reserves and the New York State National Guard. When his enlistment with the Navy concluded in 1955, he worked on the Seaway construction project from September 1955 until August of 1957.  He then was employed by the U.S. Army Reserve as the unit Administrative Aide until his retirement in 1986. Richard enjoyed all sports.

Mr. Amo is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia Amo of Ogdensburg, his children; Kimberly Amo of Ogdensburg and Debbie Amo and her spouse, Denise of Saranac Lake, Ricky Amo of Ogdensburg and Kenny Amo and his spouse, Nikki of Great Falls. His special niece, Tammy Amo also survives him along with his grandsons; Timmy and his wife, Kasie, Terrance, Michael, Andrew and his wife, Jen, Zach and his wife, Samantha and Jacob Amo and his wife, Madison and granddaughter, Courtney Baker and great grandsons; Aiden, Alec and Fennway. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.

He was predeceased by his son; Terry Amo and his three sisters, Eleanor Pratt, Muriel Morley and Marie LeFleur and three brothers; Edward, Robert and Charles Amo.
