Richard "Dick" Danboise, 89, Massena

MASSENA – Richard "Dick" P. Danboise, age 89 passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Richard was born on August 20, 1934, in Massena, NY. The son of Leo R. Danboise and Agnes M. (Losey) Danboise. He graduated from Massena Central High School in 1952 and attended Canton ATC taking extension courses in emergency technical training.

He married Sandra Ann Chase on August 23, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Massena.

After his high school graduation, he worked for the Corps of Engineers prior to joining the United States Army in 1955.

Following his honorable discharge and his return to civilian life in 1957, Richard became a member of the Massena Police Department where he was a patrolman for 2 years.

In 1959 Richard was hired to work for Reynolds Metals as Guard. Richard was later promoted to Guard Sergeant and in 1977 was promoted again to Plant Protection Manager.

Richard remained in that role until his retirement in 1994 fulfilling 35 years of dedicated service.

Richard spent many years coaching Pop Warner Football and was an active member of both St. Mary's Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus serving as a Third Degree Knight.

Richard enjoyed his time playing bridge, Pitch, golf, watching Syracuse Basketball and the NY Giants play.

He loved being silly with his grandchildren and was proud of his title of being a "pool bully" when taking over their pool floats.

Richard is survived by his three loving children, Tammy (Mark) Gondeck of Syracuse, NY, Michael (Grace) Danboise of Massena, NY and Lorie (Tim) LaLonde of Massena, NY; his grandchildren, Jacqueline Gondeck, Virginia Gondeck and husband Adam Lawson, Tara (Davidlee) Barney, Elizabeth Gondeck and husband Bryant Cook, Brittany (David) Fretzer, Alex Danboise, Michelle Currier, Nicholas Mariano and his companion Krista Sauvé, Ethan Mariano, Daniel Mariano; his great-grandchildren, Jacob Payment, Jameson Payment, Kyla Danboise, Violet Lawson, Nora Cook, Ryan Fretzer along with a bonus great-granddaughter Karli Bishop; his brothers in-law Warren (Linda) Chase, Patrick Chase, sister in law Mae Danboise and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents Leo and Agnes Danboise he was predeceased by his wife, Sandra, his brother, Thomas Danboise, his sister, Elizabeth Filion, his brother-in-law, Jerry Filion, his sister-in-law, Pamela Delosh, his brother-in-law, Kent Delosh, his sister-in-law, Diana Kay Gerhardt, his brother-in-law, Michael Gerhardt, & granddaughter, Kimberly Currier.

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 12:00pm until time of funeral services at 2:00 pm at Phillips Memorial Home with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating.

Burial with full military honors will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Massena immediately following funeral services.
