PARISHVILLE – Parishville-Hopkinton Central School welcomed over 170 community members to the school cafeteria for the long-awaited first Grandparents Day event since the pandemic.

Hosted by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), the event, titled “Goodies with Grands,” was a resounding success said organizers, bringing together students, grandparents, grandfriends, teachers, staff, and local community members in a heartwarming celebration of family and school spirit.

The event, held on March 20, aimed to honor the grandparents and grandfriends of students.

Attendees were invited to meet with their students, complete a fun interview activity, enjoy delicious donuts, and pose for a group photo to commemorate the special occasion.

In a touching moment, the school’s Pre-K students performed an adorable rendition of Frank Sinatra’s song L.O.V.E. for their "Grands," filling the room with smiles and joy.

“I was so moved to see our school community come together again,” said PTO President, Natalie Wendig. “After a challenging few years, it was heartwarming to see grandparents and grandfriends reconnected with their loved ones in the school. The turnout was incredible, and I believe it shows how much people value being a part of this school community.”

High school students gladly participated in making the event run smoothly, assisting with serving refreshments.

Teachers and staff ensured that students without a guest had someone to spend time with, reinforcing the supportive and inclusive environment the school has worked to cultivate.

The PTO was also able to make the event possible thanks to support from local businesses.

Donations from Walmart in Potsdam, Price Chopper, and Tim Hortons in the Parkway Express helped provide the donuts and other supplies needed to host the event.

The success of Goodies with Grands is a testament to the strength and resilience of the Parishville-Hopkinton Community.

“We couldn't have done it without the amazing support of everyone involved,” said PTO Event Leader Jackie Remington. “I’m so grateful to the sponsors who donated donuts, the school and all of our volunteers who stepped up to make this event so successful. It was an awesome day and we are so thankful to our wonderful community.”
