Priorities vs. loyalties?

To the Editor:

I recognize and commend every County Legislator for their countless hours of service. However, it appears that some of our legislators and elected officials get distracted with prejudices and cult-like allegiances that do not serve our local people.

It started with a majority of our legislators spending time officially glorifying a divisive, tragically murdered podcaster who died by gun violence; meanwhile they callously ignored the thousands of men, women, children and elected officials who died before him.

Next, I saw a legislator drive past me with a life sized cut out of President Trump in his car window. Idolizing and hero-worship is unseemly, especially toward a convicted felon whose policies are denying our friends and neighbors health care and closing our hospitals, whose illegal war is needlessly killing Americans and Iranians and driving gas and diesel prices through the roof, who openly fawns over communist dictators and who continues to protect himself and others connected to sex trafficking and the Epstein files.

Most recently, our Sheriff spent valuable time in Albany fighting Governor Hochul’s law that says counties cannot execute agreements to work with federal immigration agents. Maybe his time would be better spent lobbying for The Dignity Act of 2025. This historic bipartisan legislation would address all of the relevant immigration challenges facing our communities and our nation. Our farmers, small businesses and communities need clear immigration rules and laws, not the violence and chaos currently being carried out by ICE.

Let's vote for those who will prioritize our entire community’s needs.
