POTSDAM - At the Board of Directors meeting held June 18, the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce approved the membership application of two new members, Northern Power and Light and 3TK Potsdam.

Northern Power and Light is based out of Saranac Lake, NY and is owned by Emmett Smith. The Foley and Smith families have been involved in Adirondack hydroelectric power projects since the 1970s. As owner-operators, they have worked to contribute to strong communities and healthy ecosystems, while producing distributed renewable power for the Niagara-Mohawk electric grid.

Like any business, they have to keep up with the times. Changes in the electricity market have given them the challenge and the opportunity to provide power directly to local consumers. NP&L was founded in 2018 for that purpose, by brothers Ethan and Emmett Smith, and Louise Gava.  Today, their vision for a trusted, “buy-local" renewable energy option is growing. They are partnering with old friends in hydro and new friends in community solar and wind to provide customers across the North Country with renewable energy right from the source.  More information about this business can be found at www.npandl.com.

3TK Potsdam is currently in the process of renovating 4 Main St., Potsdam, NY and is owned by Casey Swamp. Their business provides healthy and energizing products such as meal replacement shakes, protein shakes, energizing teas, protein balls, and yogurt parfaits. 3TK Potsdam is an expansion of their business already established in both Akwesasne, and Massena, NY and is a fast paced environment for on-the-go customers. In this location they will be providing a space for the customers who would prefer to sit and enjoy some downtime in the store. All of their products are low calorie and little to no sugar to keep their customers on track with their health goals.
