WEST POTSDAM – A home was damaged following a propane tank explosion Aug. 19.

Potsdam Fire responded to a reported structure fire at 280 Waite Rd. in West Potsdam at 5 a.m.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire in the crawl space of the residence, according to Potsdam Fire Driver Mark Maroney.

“Engine 80 was also utilized for its light tower for scene lighting,” he said in a post on their website.

Firefighters also used a thermal imaging camera to see if the fire had extended into the main story of the residence, which it did not.

Maroney said the cause of the fire was a propane explosion by an unknown ignitable source.

One resident was injured and transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Parishville Rescue and one firefighter was transported to CPH by Canton Rescue for heat exhaustion.

Potsdam Fire was in service at 6:52 a.m.
