OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Police Department has issued an apology after misidentifying an arrest suspect recently.
Police say a formal correction and apology are necessary after identifying Melissa Bouchey, 42, as a suspect arrested for petit larceny on Sept. 28.
They continued, saying Melissa Bouchey was in fact not arrested and was incorrectly listed in a blotter item due to an administrative error.
"Melissa Bouchey was not arrested, nor was she involved in the incident. The individual who was actually arrested and charged with petit larceny at that time was Marissa Bouchey, age 32, of Ogdensburg," Police said.
Police continued, apologizing to Melissa Bouchey directly.
"The Ogdensburg Police Department deeply regrets this error and any distress, embarrassment, or inconvenience it has caused to Melissa Bouchey and her family. We take full responsibility for the mistake and are actively correcting our official records. We have also contacted local media outlets to ensure the public blotter records are amended immediately," they said.
Officials said they remain committed to providing accurate, transparent information.
"Our department is committed to maintaining accuracy, transparency, and integrity in our communications, and we are reviewing our administrative procedures to ensure such an oversight does not happen again," they said.
