OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg History Museum will celebrate Women’s History Month with a keynote lecture and exhibit honoring local women who helped shape the community and beyond.
City Historian Julie Madlin will present “Grit and Ginger: Ogdensburg’s Remarkable Women” at 7 p.m. March 12 at the museum, 206 Ford St.
The lecture and accompanying exhibit, which runs through March 27, highlight the lives of Marion Sanger Frank, Dr. Lawreen Marie Heller Connors, Elsa Luksich, Dr. Mary Bryan and Sally James Farnham.
Frank led the Ogdensburg Political Equality Club and mobilized support for women’s suffrage. Connors was an internationally recognized biochemist whose amyloidosis research had global impact. Luksich served as a Red Cross “Motor Girl” and was a youth and child care advocate. Bryan worked as a missionary physician in India before returning to serve Ogdensburg residents. Farnham gained renown as a sculptor and created the “Spirit of Liberty” monument in Ogdensburg.
The event is free and open to the public. Museum members will receive preferred seating and a preview of the Women’s Suffrage Exhibit.
