NORWOOD – A threat written on a bathroom wall prompted a student lockdown at Norwood-Norfolk Central School this morning.
“Today Norwood-Norfolk Central School received a threat, written on a bathroom wall,” NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank said in a message to district parents. “The NYS Police were already on site conducting a routine walkthrough when it was reported.”
Cruikshank said police, together with administration, began an immediate investigation.
“It was decided that a student lockdown would allow the investigation to progress without interruption,” he said. “It was our decision to take every precaution to ensure the safety of our children.”
State police, joined by Norfolk Town Police, determined that students are not in danger and there is no risk to student safety, Cruikshank said.
“I am pleased by the reaction and response from the NYS Police and the Norfolk Town Police,” he said. “They will remain on site for the remainder of the day to ensure that our children feel safe. It is our intention to identify the student and press charges accordingly. These situations are disturbing to children, families, teachers, and community and we will do what we are able to put an end to these most disruptive situations.”
The superintendent said he appreciates the support from the community.
