Nancy Ann Jones, 80, Canton

CANTON -- Nancy Ann Jones, 80, of Canton, NY died Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Canton with Rev. Bryan Stitt as celebrant and Rev. Raymond Moreau as concelebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.

Her calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton. Additional off-street parking is available behind “LUNA” at 18 Park Street.

Nancy was born January 17, 1944, a daughter to the late Isadore and Julia “Mary” (Simf) Richey in Massena, NY. She was a 1962 graduate of Massena High School and furthered her education at Plattsburgh State University graduating in 1966.

On August 19, 1967, she married Dennis “Denny” R. Jones at Sacred Heart Church in Massena. Nancy and Denny had two children, Tracey and Aaron.

Nancy started her teaching career in 1966 as a Home Economics teacher at Canton Central School and retired in 1999. While there she also served as a cheerleader and class advisor.

Nancy was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church where she served on the Parish Council and was an Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered for many church dinners, cleaned the church for a number of years and volunteered at the thrift shop.

She was a member of the Canton Study Club, assisted with the Girl Scouts, and was a member of the EJ Noble Hospital Guild where she was in charge of the “Candy Stripers”.

Nancy enjoyed sewing, cooking, and tending to her flower gardens. These labors of love were only surpassed by the joy she found supporting her husband’s, children’s and grandchildren’s sports teams. She also actively followed the SLU Skating Saints.

Nancy shared her love of camping and traveling with her family. She visited many international destinations with her husband, Denny, and enjoyed family cruises to the Caribbean.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 57 years, Denny Jones of Canton; a daughter, Tracey (Ron) Burke of Canton and a son, Aaron (Paula) Jones of Canton; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Burke (Zach Taylor), Meredith Jones and Ryan Jones. She is also survived by two brothers: Dana (Mona) Richey of Texas and Robert (Caroline) Richey of Hawaii.
