MORRISTOWN – Quick response by Morristown firefighters limited damage to a structure on State Highway 37 in the Town of Morristown.
The blaze was reported at 1:18 a.m. this morning.
Morristown Fire and Rescue Company was dispatched to 3659 State Highway 37. Fire crews were on scene within minutes reporting a working structure fire flame showing from the B side of the structure. Morristown Engine 34's crew deployed an 1 ¾ inch attack line to the outside of the building to knock down the fire going up the B side of the building while a second crew advanced a second 1¾ inch attack line into the building and upstairs. Together, the interior and exterior crews made a quick knock down on the fire and then began looking for an extension of the fire.
Fire was then located in between two roofs and firefighters began accessing the void in between the two roofs to quell the fire in between the roofs.
Morristown Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Brier Hill Fire Department, the Heuvelton Fire Department, the Ogdensburg Fire Department, Ogdensburg Rescue, National Grid and the Morristown Auxiliary.
“Our guys had a good knock down on the exterior fire and the interior fire limiting the damage from the fire, although there is smoke and water damage throughout the building,” stated Fire Chief Jay Moore.
The cause of the fire is listed as a malfunction of the chimney going to the wood stove. The property was insured. There were no injuries reported. Two adults, two children and four dogs have been displaced.
