Meryl S. Cummings, 92, Canton

CANTON -- Meryl S. Cummings, 92, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, June 16, 2024, at United Helpers Rehab and Senior Care in Canton.

Meryl was born January 6, 1932, in Schenectady, daughter of the late Stanley and Gertrude Elizabeth (Coppernoll) Schiemer.

She was a graduate of Draper High School in Schenectady.

She married Marshall H. Cummings on November 3, 1962, in Schenectady. Marshall predeceased her on June 16, 2002.

She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended meetings at the Kingdom Hall in Potsdam.

Meryl was secretary to the president at Schenectady Savings and Loan, a bookkeeper for Arquette’s Superette in Sanfordville, a customer service representative for St. Lawrence National Bank, and a bookkeeper for Larry Hazen.

She enjoyed cooking for friends and family, knitting, reading, and studying the Bible.

Meryl is survived by her children, Joel Cummings of Central Square and Kimberly Cummings of Brasher Falls; grandchildren, Ezra and Cesily; her brother, Kent Schiemer of Schenectady; nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Stanley and Gertrude and her husband, Marshall, she was also predeceased by her sister, Doris DiLorenzo.

A funeral service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1087 NY-11B, Potsdam on July 21, 2024, at 3 PM.

Donations may be made in Meryl’s memory to the Potsdam Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
