MASSENA – Patients who have received treatment over the past year at the Massena Hospital Wound Care Center are praising the medical team with comments such as, “I have had the best care and would recommend the Center to everyone.”
Rochester Regional Health’s St. Lawrence Region officially opened the Wound Care Center in Massena Hospital on April 15. During the one year they have been open, the service line has continued to grow.
“Our volumes have dramatically increased over the past year thanks to the local support from our community and our organization,” stated Wound Care Director Terri Carr.
“Wound Care services provide significant benefits to patients in our region by improving health outcomes, reducing hospitalizations, and enhancing the patient's overall quality of life. Chronic wounds can cause pain, limit mobility, and increase emotional distress to patients and their families. By providing personalized treatments, advanced therapies, and patient education close to home, our Wound Care services enhance patients' daily lives,” Carr noted.
Typical Wound Care services consist of treating diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, skin tears or lacerations, pressure ulcers, osteomyelitis, compromised skin grafts or flaps, and many other non-healing wounds.
The Massena Hospital Center sees adults of all ages who require specialized care for chronic non-healing wounds related to aging, and/or vascular issues. Patients who have certain comorbidities, such as diabetes, circulation problems, infections, kidney disease, and a high body mass index, have a higher risk of experiencing wounds that have delayed healing capabilities.
Patients who utilize the hyperbaric chambers have unique needs that differ from standard wound care patients due to the nature of their conditions and treatment(s) they require.
Wound Care Center patients had the following accolades to share about their experiences:
The Wound Care Center is located within Massena Hospital, and has its own specially marked entrance to the left of the Main Entrance. Reserved Wound Care patient parking is available for patients who have limited mobility or use transportation services.
Referrals for Wound Care treatment are not required. To learn more about the services provided throughout Rochester Regional Health, visit https://www.rochesterregional.org/services/wound-care .
