Mary Jo Jones, 70, formerly of Gouverneur

CHARLOTTE, NC- We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Jo Jones, age 70. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday May 10th, 2024.

Mary Jo was born in Gouverneur, NY on November 11, 1953, to Douglas Jones Sr. and Lillian Cary Jones Boni.

Mary Jo graduated from ECS in 1971 and furthered her education at SUNY Canton.

She gave birth to her only child, Megan Jones in 1973 and then relocated to the Rochester, NY area where she began her career with the Xerox corporation as an administrative assistant.

Mary Jo later went on to work for Eastman Kodak company. After retiring from Kodak she decided to move to NC and finished her career with Lincoln Financial Advisors.

Mary Jo enjoyed being a grandmother and great grandmother and spending time with her grandkids.

She was a huge basketball fan and loved the Charlotte Hornets and had been a season ticket holder for 10 years.

She was loved by everyone at the arena and was known as Momma Jo.

She also loved online shopping and red and white candies.

Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Ralph Boni, and her brother, Douglas Jones Jr.

Mary Jo was eagerly waiting the arrival of her first great granddaughter. She leaves behind her daughter, Megan Jones (Charlotte); grandchildren, Brittany Jones (Latrikas)(Charlotte), Destiny Blocker (Charlotte), Kobe Jones (Charlotte); great-grandchildren, Dekhari Blocker and A’mire Jones; siblings, Terry Watson (James), Rodney Jones (Carmen) and nieces and nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Edwards, NY on Wednesday July 24th at 1:00 pm.

In Mary Jo’s honor, Memorial contributions can be made to the Bobby Jones CSF. This organization was very dear to her.
