MADRID -- Martins Country Store of Madrid will be closing its doors on Sept. 25.

The news came from a Facebook post on the store's page on Sept. 11.

In the post, the Martins Country Store team and family called the journey with the Madrid store "both exciting and fulfilling" over the last decade.

"We've cherished the opportunity to serve and connect with many of you over this past decade. In that time, many things have changed in the economy and especially retail business," the post reads.

But changes in the economy and retail landscape have played a role in the decision to close the location, the post reads.

"As the retail landscape and our own business have evolved, we have tirelessly explored various ways to maximize our limited space. Despite our best efforts, we have reached the difficult decision that it is time to close Martins Country Store in Madrid," the post reads.

The Martins family and team said St. Lawrence County "has always held a special place in our hearts," which has led the family to actively seek a new location in the county for a new store.

"While this chapter is coming to a close, we are thrilled to be working on plans for a new location and we hope to have an announcement soon! We are dedicated to continuing our tradition of providing quality products and warm, friendly service in a fresh, new setting," the post reads.

The Martins family and team praised the employees, customers and landlord for making their time in Madrid "so memorable."

"We hope to see you at our new location, as well as at our current stores in Moira and Brushton," the post reads.

In the meantime, Martins said that all customers will also be able to order online throughout the transition, while also taking advantage of their delivery services.

"Thank you for being a cherished part of our journey. We look forward to welcoming you again soon," they wrote.
